The Winter Blues

7 Feb

Welp Its winter!

chicago-winter

I really cant stand winter. Yes I know I ran a race in the winter but still, its cold. The commute to school is awful, people don’t know how to drive and I am so pale that I think I might just be a ghost!

Lately I haven’t been able to snap out of this depressive/down on my self mood lately and I don’t know why. Yes I suffer from Depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (I also take medication for it) but I haven’t felt this down in a while. What gives? I really shouldn’t be feeling down because I have a lot of things going for me. I have a roof over my head, clothes, food, and a family to come home to every night. Yet I still feel empty.

Maybe its the stress of midterms? Commuting to school everyday? Not being able to run? I don’t know.

I dont want to make this post any more depressing so I am going to try to give you some tips to help you cure the winter blues! (I should take these into consideration too)

1. Hit the Gym

I love getting the exercise endorphins after a great workout!

2. Find a great playlist that keeps you moving!

I am currently in love with these bands: Minus the Bear, Local Natives, and Santigold.

3. Spring is less than two months away!

(I know we have had a mild winter but still its winter haha)

4. Spring weather means I can run outside with less layers! (I cant wait to run when the weather is ideal to wear shorts and a t-shirt)

5. Drop the Bass

Listen to some crazy techno music and dance! Even Edgar Allen Poe approves of it. (I really could not stand his  poetry growing up as a kid in middle school. His allegories scared the sh** out of me)

Those are all of the tips I have right now. Haha

Also on Tuesday I ran/walked for 30 minutes on the treadmill! NO CALF PAIN!

2.5 min walk=4.0

2.5 min run= 6.0 (I kept the speed lower than my normal speed which is 6.3 because I did not want to irritate my calf)

(Take that calf sprain)

What do you do to cure the winter blues?

Also bloggers that I follow and read regularly: I am sorry that I have not been commenting on your blog posts! I love you all but I have been bombarded with midterms and haven’t been able to have a chance to comment on them due to school.

I agree, getting creative in the winter is a must in order to keep me motivated

I totally agree! You have to mix it up or else it gets annoying haha :)

I really dislike winter running. I get ice in my hair and the shower is super painful as all my muscles warm up again. I really think I need to take winters off of running and focus on cross training.

I am somewhat reluctant to winter running. Right now I cannot run so I have been doing a lot of cross training. Winter running has some perks (like it being cold and not boiling hot to the point where you are drenched in sweat haha).

I am happy to hear you are not feeling any calf pain! Sorry that you are so bummed about the weather though. I love winter – being outside and playing in the cold/snow and snuggling up inside. It’s the other seasons I struggle with.

Thanks Kim. Its ok I am feeling better now! I think I did really well at my interview so that made me feel better. I am so so about winter running. I loved colder temps because I can actually breath without having to breathe in hot sweaty air. Haha. :)
